The Dukes Head is a friendly, family run residential village Inn situated in the midsts of England’s unspoilt Eden Valley. The village of Armathwaite is on the river Eden which is renowned as one of England’s finest salmon and Trout Rivers. We are a traditional village Inn offering good local food, real ale and comfortable accommodation in a pleasant traditional setting .We pride ourselves on providing a warm welcome and some great hospitality in a comfortable and homely atmosphere, complete with open fires and cosy bed and breakfast accommodation.
We are easily found whether travelling by car, rail, foot or cycle!
Travelling north or south on the M6, junctions 41 & 42 are less than 10 miles away. Both the A66 and A69 are on the doorstep making us easily accessible from the north, south, east or west.
Armathwaite is also the penultimate station on the beautiful Settle-Carlisle Railway and is easy to get to from the main line stations. Our nearest Airport is in Newcastle.

We have a cosy bar area and dinning room where you can sample our menu and specials at both lunch times and evenings, along with a pint of Cumberland ale or a glass of wine or bottle from our wine list.

We can provide you with details of several circular walks starting and ending in our car park!
We can help you arrange fishing trips and tuition. You can visit some great local tourist attractions and a host of local artists and artisans. Explore Carlisle Castle, Hadrian’s Wall and many of our historic houses and gardens including Hutton in the Forest. Travel to the local market towns of Penrith and Brampton. The list of things to see and do on our doorstep is endless is endless!
